Continuing with my wood sculpture…

This is the second in the series and was really about the Baltic birch edge in the red strip underneath the white. I really wanted a huge contrast in color and in shape and in an abstract manor, texture, by showing the edge versus the grain.

This first sculpture series is in gray, white, red and either light teal or light green using a homemade stain of an acrylic medium and high pigment acrylic paint on Baltic birch. The method I use creates brilliant colors and still allows the wood grain to be visible to a certain extent. Additionally, the edges are stained, but all attempts were made to keep the layers of the Baltic birch visible and as much a part of the art as the wood grain itself. Naturally, because of the methods I use, slight variations in color between sculptures as well as artifacts of the process exist. Both variations and artifacts are part of the art.
